The new Low cost Datawind tablet called Aakash 2 Tablet is launched in India collaborating with HRD Ministry of India. This device will have some special subsidized price for Indian students and will be available for Rs. 1,130.

Along with this the device will have a pre-installed app from Amrita University specially designed for it. The app is named as Amrita Virtual Interactive E-Learning World or A-VIEW. It will be available across all devices.
DataWind will be supplying 100,000 tablets, to the India government at a price of Rs 2,263 per piece. The government is giving this low cost tablet to students at Rs 1,130, after a subsidy of Rs 1,133.
It is selling the same model in the open market, with the brand name UbiSlate, priced at Rs 3,499.The company enjoys two big tax waivers: 12.5% customs duty on imported components, most parts from China, and 6% of excise duty on the final product.
As the government is buying 100,000 tablets in the first lot for Indian students, company does not have to spend on marketing or incur any sales.
